한국의 벗들에게
한국의 발도르프 학교들을 방문하며 보냈던 감사와 따뜻한 사랑의 시간이 생각납니다. 중국에서 발도르프 운동의 리더의 역할을 하게 되어 더 이상 다른 지역을 방문할 시간이 없기 전까지 한국의 발도르프 학교를 방문하였었고, 여러분들과 함께 했던 몇 컨퍼런스와 교사연수에서 매우 즐겁게 일했던 생각도 납니다. 나는 여러분 나라의 힘에 깊은 인상을 받았고, 예술과 문화에 대한 여러분의 사랑 그리고 배우고 성장하려는 의지와 더불어 여러분에게 주어진 임무에 대한 열정과 투지도 인상적이었습니다.
동시에 경쟁과 개인의 성취에 막대한 중점을 두는 한국의 주류 교육 체계에서 비롯된 거대한 사회적 도전도 목격하였습니다. 학교안에서 그리고 학교들 사이에서 여러분들이, 교사이건, 교직원이나 학부모이건, 직면해온 엄청난 도전은 바로 그 사회 영역에 있는 문제라는 것을 여러분도 동의하리라 생각합니다. 그렇기에 그 선한 의지와 시간, 기술과 돈이 여러분들의 학교에 쏟아 부었고 그럼에도 많은 사소한 대립과 오해들과 갈등이 있어왔습니다. 나는 이상을 향한 여러분의 헌신의 불길을 목격하였고 그 이상 안에서 함께 일하는 어려움도 목격했습니다.
그러나 많은 예외도 있었습니다. 특히 여러분이 예술적으로 함께 일할 때였습니다. 드라마에 대한 여러분의 능력과 조화로운 합창, 한국어에 대한 소리와 제스쳐에 대한 여러분의 사랑은 매우 인상깊은 것이었습니다. 그리고 이제 여러분이 한국발도르프 연합을 만드는 과정 중에 있다는 소식의 기쁜 음악소리가 내 귀에 들려옵니다!
여러분의 강력하고 문화적으로 풍성한 한국 민족혼의 새로운 전진과 새로운 협력의 정신을 위한 기회가 되기를! 특히 공포와 혼란이 세계 수백만명의 생명을 쥐고 있는 이 시대에, 헌신하는 인간 영혼의 진정한 공동체 탄생이 어느때 보다 절실하게 필요한 시대에 말입니다. 먼 곳에서라도 도울 수 있는 방법이 있다면 기꺼이 돕겠습니다.
단 두명이라도 이 세계와 우리 인간의 미래를 위한 헌신과 사랑에서 우러난 진정한 동료의식으 로 함께 일할 때 그 안에 생겨나는 힘을 과소평가하지 마십시요!
이러한 나의 생각들과 따뜻하고 선한 소망을 우정과 존경을 담아 여러분께 보냅니다. 또한 이 시기의 세계에 우리에게 오는 도전에 대해 쓴 나의 최근 글도 보냅니다. 이 글이 여러분의 일에 기쁨과 자유의 새로운 정신을 점화하는데 도움이 되길 바라며. 나의 사랑도 보냅니다.

Dear Friends in Korea
I think back with fondness and gratitude to the times I spent visiting several of your schools, before I took on a leadership role in the Waldorf movement in Mainland China and no longer had the time or ability to continue to visit other places.
I also greatly enjoyed working with you in some of your conferences and teacher education courses.
I was impressed by the power of your land and by the vigour and determination with which you took on your tasks, as well as your love of art and culture, and your will to learn and grow.
As the same time, I also witnessed the huge social challenges that you have inherited, I think, from a mainstream education system which puts such huge emphasis on competition and individual achievement.
I am sure you will agree that it is in that social sphere that you have had to face the greatest challenges, both within and between schools, whether as teachers and staff or as parents.
So much goodwill, time, skill and money has been poured into your schools and yet there have been so many rivalries, misunderstandings and conflicts.
I witnessed many times the flame of your commitment to ideals and the difficulties you had in working on them together.
But there were many exceptions, too, particularly when you were working artistically together.
Your capacity for drama and harmony singing, and your love of the sounds and gestures of the Korean language, were highly impressive for me, and it is ‘music to my ears’ now to hear that you are ing the process of creating a Korean Association of Waldorf Schools!
May it truly be opportunity for a new spirit of co-working, and a new step forward for your powerful, culturally rich Korean Folk Soul!
Especially at this time when fear and confusion grip the lives of millions of people around the world, and the need for the birthing of true communities of committed human souls is greater than ever before!
If I can help in any way – though it may have to be from a distance – I will gladly do so.
Do not ever underestimate the power that is in our midst. when two or more people are working together in genuine fellowship, out of commitment and love for this world and for our human future!

I am also sending my most recent article about what I perceive to be our challenges in the world at this time, in the hope that it may help to enkindle a new spirit of freedom and joy in your professional work.
